Could the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards be another year for firsts?
Around this same time last September, the execs of basic cable were thrilled to see one of their own finally win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series (Mad Men). Meanwhile, producers of reality fare saw an award given to one of their hosts (Jeff Probst). So which other category could be covered during this round? Animation.
For the first time since 1961 (when The Flintstones were still on air), an animated program has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. So will Family Guy finally go where The Simpsons has never gone before? Not if the six other contenders have anything to say about it!
So who won? Who lost? Which funnyman took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor since Jeremy Piven wasn’t even nominated? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

Cost of Michael Jackson TV Special a Little Too High
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, Specials, Gossip, News,
AEG Live has been negotiating with several networks over the cost of their Michael Jackson rehearsal footage, tape which will be turned into a major motion picture later this year. AEG was hoping to sell some of the footage to be used for the creation of TV special that would whip viewing audiences into a film frenzy, but their $20 million price tag proved to be a little too high.

VIDEO: Justin Timberlake Proves He’s a Motherlover on SNL

Could Justin Timberlake be on his way to winning another Emmy?
On last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, the singer-dancer-actor gave his mom one more reason to be proud. Justin, with the help of Andy Samberg, followed up their now classic “Dick in a Box” performance with a song dedicated to all the mothers out there.

Justin Timberlake to Host Saturday Night Live Again
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
SNL may have brought on Abby Elliott and Michaela Watkins this year, but Justin Timberlake seems to be the one getting all the screen time.
Already this season, we’ve seen the performer appear as a backup dancer in Beyonce’s music video. He also cameoed as Andy Samberg’s boyfriend in a skit about comic strip character Cathy. Now Timberlake will be taking over the show. Again.
Later next month, Justin will be hitting the Saturday Night Live stage as the show’s guest host. That’s a gig he’s already done twice before. Since that May 9 show will also feature Ciara, I’m guessing Justin will be singing as well on “Love Sex Magic.”

Janet Jackson Seeks Her Replacement on MTV

Reality TV producers over at MTV have apparently lured pop icon Janet Jackson into developing yet another American Idol-esque series.
“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher,” executive producer David Broome explains; however, I am a bit unsure as to why we would need to find the next Janet, Justin, or Usher when all three are still rather successful artists today. Perhaps a hint at Jackson’s fall from her pop star throne?
Either way you slice it, the upcoming MTV show sounds just like Making the Band to me.
Fearing blatant comparisons to its predecessors, Boome added, “We’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find it from. We’ll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.”
Wow! A reality show with a heart? I doubt it.

The American Music Award Nominations
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, FOX, American Idol, News,
The American Music Awards heaped honors this week awarding Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Linkin Park and Daughtry (led by American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry) with three nominations each. Idol winner Carrie Underwood nabbed two nominations, showing that FOX can, at least, find talent. Daughtry will also be a performer, along with Celine Dion, Fergie and Rihanna. Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the event, which will air on ABC November 18.
Nominees for the AMAs are initially chosen based upon record sales, but this year marks a first for the award show: members of the public will be able to vote for nominees online.

‘Hannah Montana’ Tour Outselling The Police, Springsteen
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Cable,
It’s not uncommon for a Disney movie to outperform its competition—so should we be surprised that the hottest concert tour this year is being headlined by a Disney Channel star?
The Hannah Montana (a.k.a. Miley Cyrus) tour is so successful, scalpers are already selling her concert tickets at five times the face value. Seats for all 54 stops have already sold out—and in several cases, in near record fashion. (It took only four minutes in the Atlanta-area and eight minutes in Memphis.) According the Associated Press, her tour is outselling The Police, Bruce Springsteen and Justin Timberlake.
Okay, the Spice Girls did just sell out their London concert in only 38 seconds—but let’s remember: Hannah/Miley’s only 14.
